Darderi Clinches Win with Six Aces
The Italian second seed, Luciano Darderi, showcased his clay-court prowess by dismantling Chilean opponent Tomas Barrios in a swift, 6-1, 6-3 victory to reach the quarterfinal stage of the Argentina Open. The match, played on the outdoor clay of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, lasted a mere hour and 22 minutes.
“It’s the first time I’ve played on clay in five months, and I felt really comfortable,” said the 23-year-old Darderi, who is eyeing his fifth career title.
Darderi Stingy on Service Points; Barrios Struggles
- Darderi won 95% of his first service points and hit six aces.
- Barrios, ranked 114th, could muster only a 47% success rate on his first serve and committed 22 unforced errors.
Next Up: Darderi vs. Martinez
Darderi will face Spain’s Pedro Martinez in the next round after the Spaniard outlasted local favorite Juan Cerundolo, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
