Remarkable Career Celebrated in New Book

Cyril Jonard, a Paralympic champion who is both visually impaired and hard of hearing, will be signing copies of his new book, A flame to emerge from the shadows, released this year. The book details the last ten years of his life, marked by significant challenges and triumphs.

Jonard’s career has unfolded alongside those of celebrated able-bodied judokas like Teddy Riner and Clarisse Agbegnenou – both of whom penned the preface to his book – despite an impressive record of his own. His accolades include a Paralympic championship in Athens in 2004, a Paralympic vice-championship in Beijing in 2008, and a third-place finish in Paris in 2024. He likewise holds three world championship titles (2003, 2006, and 2022) and two European championship titles (2005 and 2007). Adding to his achievements, he has secured ten world titles among deaf athletes.

Judo Demonstrations and Community Engagement

The event, scheduled from 3 p.m. To 4:30 p.m., will feature judo demonstrations and initiations led by Jonard, accompanied by his guide dog, Pims, in collaboration with the Grand Cognac Judo club.

This visit is part of a sports sponsorship initiative by the French Sports Foundation and Ceetrus real estate company, which supports 55 athletes and para-athletes, as well as thirty sports clubs, through the Support your club system.
