Berlin Advances to Championship Game

Alba Berlin’s women’s basketball team has reached the cup final for the first time in club history, defeating the defending champions Saarlouis Royals 71-67 in overtime on Saturday. The game, played in front of 2,170 fans at the Sömmeringhalle, was a hard-fought contest that went down to the wire.

Alina Hartmann led the Berliners with 18 points, although Lena Gohlisch added 10. For Saarlouis, Martha Burse was the top scorer with 20 points.

The game began evenly, but Alba Berlin quickly gained momentum with an 11-0 run, establishing a double-digit lead (18-8) early in the first quarter. They extended their advantage to as many as 14 points in the second quarter (33-19).

Yet, Saarlouis battled back, reducing the deficit before halftime. The intensity increased after the break, with Saarlouis mounting a strong comeback. Alba struggled in the final quarter, scoring only six points in eight minutes, allowing Saarlouis to tie the game with 53 seconds remaining.

Overtime Decides the Contest

In the extra period, Alba Berlin demonstrated greater composure and secured the victory.

Alba now had the game under control and was much more effective with her throws.
