Cuban slugger José Dariel “Pito” Abreu, protagonist of an outstanding career in Major League Baseball (MLB), will join the Senadores de San Juan for the next season of the Winter League of Baseball in Puerto Rico.
According to specialist journalist Francis Romero on Facebook, Abreu, 37 years old, has given the “I do” to the Boricuan team and will report in November, with the aim of preparing for a possible comeback in the MLB in 2025, after he left the Houston Astros.
The experienced player, known for his power and consistency at bat, will use the winter league to get back into the competitive rhythm after having a season marred by injuries and performance issues.
The decision to join the Senadores represents an important step in his career as he tries to stay fit and show that he can still be a key player in the major leagues.
Abreu, a vital representative of Cuban baseball in the MLB, was named the American League’s Most Valuable Player in 2020 and has maintained a stellar career with three All-Star Game appearances.
Their participation in Puerto Rico will capture the attention of fans both on the island and internationally and raise expectations for their future in professional baseball.
This winter campaign will begin in early November, where Abreu will look to leave his mark and hopefully pave the way for a successful return to the “Gran Carpa”.
