Cuba to Host Trio of International Badminton Tournaments in March & April
Havana, Cuba – Cuba will play host to three international badminton tournaments at the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum throughout March and the first week of April 2026.
Junior Competition Kicks Off the Series
The series begins with the First International Youth Tournament in Havana, scheduled from March 3rd to March 8th, with technical meetings and training sessions taking place on March 4th.
Athletes from Colombia, Paraguay, Bulgaria, and Honduras have already registered to compete alongside Cuba’s top youth players. “This contest will award points for the world youth ranking, with a view to the world and Pan American championships for that age group, among other international events.

The Giraldilla International: A Long-Standing Tradition
Following the youth tournament, the traditional Giraldilla in Havana will take place between March 10th and March 15th. This event, established over two decades ago, has attracted 54 players from 14 nations.
Participating countries include Canada, the United States, El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia, Paraguay, Bulgaria, and Portugal. “We will see in action, along with the hosts, representatives from Canada, the United States, El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia and Paraguay, as well as Bulgaria and Portugal.

The Giraldilla will award points towards both the universal adult world ranking and the qualifying process for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.
Fresh Cuba International Series Promises Higher Stakes
The final event, from March 31st to April 5th, will be the inaugural Cuba International Series. This tournament is characterized by its higher rank and will feature approximately 60 players from 14 countries.
“It is particularly key, even of a higher level than the Giraldilla, and of the participants some are among the top 70 in the world ranking. It means a lot for our sport to enter this type of tournaments, which include cash prizes,”

Like the Giraldilla, the Cuba International Series is also eligible for the adult world list and serves as a key qualifying event for the Santo Domingo 2026 Games, concluding with the Pan American Championship in Lima, Peru.
