Colombian Badminton Star Nicolás Morales Rey Eyes International Success

Rising Star Prepares for Demanding International Schedule

Nicolás Morales Rey is embarking on a demanding international tour, a pivotal step in his badminton career and his pursuit of a higher world ranking. The athlete, a second semester student of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports at the University of Quindío, is focused on adding points to his ranking and solidifying his position on the global stage.

Intensive Training Camp in Guatemala

Morales Rey recently traveled to Guatemala to begin a 20-day technical camp. The camp features intensive training – a triple daily shift from Monday to Saturday – with high-level athletes and coaches.

I am going to be practically 24/7 dedicated to badminton. In Guatemala there are solid settings, good human and material resources, and that allows me to train much longer. I am going to share with Pan American medalists and those qualified for the Olympic Games, which helps a lot to raise the level, Nicolás Morales Rey

Giraldilla Future Series and Pan American Seniors on the Horizon

Following the Guatemalan camp, Morales Rey will compete in the Giraldilla Future Series in Havana, Cuba, from March 10 to 15, 2026. This tournament, endorsed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), is a crucial opportunity to improve his world ranking.

He will then return to Guatemala to continue training throughout March before competing in the Pan American Seniors in Jalisco, Mexico, between April 10 and 15.

It is a tournament that will allow me to continue climbing the ranks in the world ranking. The expectation is high, win several rounds, bring a medal and continue adding points, Nicolás Morales Rey

Morales Rey recently contributed to Colombia’s bronze medal win at the XX South American Senior Championship in Bucaramanga.
