Yankees’ Yarbrough Joins Team USA for World Baseball Classic
Published: March 1, 2026
Team USA has made a roster adjustment ahead of the World Baseball Classic, adding New York Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough to replace Minnesota Twins ace Joe Ryan. Ryan is sidelined due to inflammation in his back and has been placed in the designated pitcher pool, potentially returning later in the tournament.

Yarbrough’s Role
Manager Mark DeRosa will have the flexibility to utilize Yarbrough as both a starter and a reliever. During the 2025 season, Yarbrough made 19 appearances, including eight starts, posting a 4.36 ERA and a 55/19 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His career ERA stands at 4.22 with 654 strikeouts and 196 walks over eight seasons.
Joe Ryan’s Status
While Ryan is currently unavailable, he remains eligible to rejoin the team should they advance in the tournament. He is progressing well from his back injury, having completed a bullpen session and is scheduled for live batting practice soon. I think (Team USA manager Mark DeRosa) feels really good about it,
Ryan said.
