Murphy stated that in his opinion, Ortiz is a starting player. The reason Dunn has been given a chance is because Murphy wants to learn more about his abilities. Initially, it seemed like Ortiz was the better option, but perhaps Dunn needs more experience. However, he has shown improvement in all aspects of the game including offense, defense, and baserunning.
Left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser is scheduled to play for Class AAA Nashville this Sunday. If he performs well, he may have a good chance of being selected to start for the Brewers in their upcoming game against the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field next weekend.

Freddy Peralta’s suspension may result in a gap in the Brewers’ rotation for one game. Peralta is scheduled to pitch on Sunday and has expressed his intention to withdraw his appeal after facing the Chicago Cubs.

Gasser is scheduled to start on Friday with normal resting time.

Christian Yelich, the outfielder, practiced batting, throwing, and running over the past three days at Wrigley Field during the weekend. According to Murphy, Yelich is making progress in recovering from a back injury that has prevented him from playing since April 12.

Making this decision would result in Peralta starting his suspension on Monday in Kansas City. He would be able to come back on Saturday to play against the Cardinals, but his usual spot in the rotation would be on Friday.

CHICAGO – If all goes as planned, it is trending that one of the Milwaukee Brewers’ top pitching prospects would make his major-league debut this upcoming week. “He’s got to pitch well,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said of Gasser. “He’s got an outing today and we want to make sure that he gets his pitch count up. But I think that you see the hole there with Freddy being out, most likely. That would be a strong candidate.”

Christian Yelich progressing

The rationale behind this decision, according to Murphy, was to gain a better understanding of Oliver Dunn’s abilities as the team considered whether to keep him in the major leagues or send him back to the minors.

“It’s a continuous process and it appears to be making progress in the past few days,” stated Murphy. “I am optimistic that we will have another positive day today.”

Joey Ortiz is once again not in the starting lineup.

Joey Ortiz, the infielder for the Brewers, has been performing well at the plate this season. However, he has not been included in any of Murphy’s three lineups so far this weekend.
In the year 2023, Gasser was named the Brewers’ co-minor league pitcher of the year. He played the entire previous season with the Nashville team, achieving a 3.79 ERA in 25 starts and 135 ⅓ innings. Although he had a delayed start this season due to bone spurs in his throwing elbow, he has made a speedy recovery and has already started in two games for the Sounds.

There are two additional starting pitchers, Janson Junk and Aaron Ashby, on the current 40-man roster who are not beneath Gasser on the starting depth chart. However, both Junk and Ashby are not currently ahead of Gasser on the depth chart. The Milwaukee team could also choose to have a day where they use multiple pitchers from the bullpen, but this would be their eighth consecutive game on Friday.
