[스포츠조선 장종호 기자] A large amount of compensation has been awarded to a man who fed a stray cat in China. A citizen who was playing badminton was held responsible for paralyzing his legs due to the cat.

According to the South China Morning Post, a Chinese court ruled that a man who fed a stray cat should pay 240,000 yuan (about 46 million won) in compensation to a badminton club member who fell and became paralyzed during a game due to the cat.

“); Mr. Woo, a badminton club member, was playing with his teammates recently when he stepped on something while landing after a jump, lost his balance, and fell to the ground.

What Mr. Woo stepped on was a cat. Mr. Woo was diagnosed with a compound fracture and paralysis of his right leg at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, this cat was a stray cat that was fed and cared for by Mr. Xiao, an employee at a badminton stadium in Shanghai.

A teammate at the stadium told police that Xiao fed and bathed the cat in the stadium bathroom and even took it to the vet when necessary.

Accordingly, the court judged Mr. Xiao to be the cat’s guardian.

Mr. Wu, who injured his leg, filed a lawsuit against the badminton stadium and employee Mr. Xiao, holding them responsible for negligent management, and demanded compensation of 350,000 yuan (about 67 million won).

In response, Mr. Xiao refuted that he fed the cat, but did not raise it as a pet, and that he was not with the cat at the time of the accident and could not control its movements.

However, the court did not accept this and ruled that the guardian should pay 240,000 yuan in compensation to Mr. Xiao, saying that the guardian must be held responsible if the pet causes harm to others.

The court also added that if Mr. Xiao fails to pay compensation, Mr. Xiao’s employer, who owns the badminton stadium, must also pay some compensation.

When the news broke, netizens said, “I support this ruling. If you really care about cats, you should not just feed them, but take them home,” “Sending a warning message to people who feed stray animals,” and “Now it’s time to do this.” “Who would willingly feed a stray animal?” They are giving reactions such as:
