Ceuta Judo Team Claims National Medals

The Club Ushiro expedition returned from the Spanish Cup of Veterans, held Sunday, February 22nd in Villaviciosa de Odón, with a silver and a bronze medal. Five judokas from Ceuta competed, accompanied by their coach, Rafa Muñoz.

The team aimed to scratch some medal, according to Muñoz, in what he described as one of the most demanding categories on the national scene.

Medalists and Strong Performances

Omar Andalusí secured a silver medal with a solid performance. Claudio Mendoza earned a bronze medal after overcoming intense competition. Orlando Gutierrez and José Manuel Moles finished fifth, narrowly missing the podium after close matches. Francisco Casanova placed seventh.

Growing Momentum for Ushiro Club

The competition included athletes aged 34 to 80, and featured a high level of competition, including international participants.

This achievement builds on previous success, including a podium finish at the Spanish Veterans Super Cup in Córdoba last October.

The Club Ushiro acknowledged the support of FISIOMEGA, a collaborating clinic with the Ceuta Judo Federation.

Regional Judo Development

In October 2025, the Ushiro Club hosted a judo training camp at the Guillermo Molina pavilion, attracting nearly 100 athletes from Ceuta, La Línea, and Gibraltar. World Champion Ángel Benavides led a technical session, inspiring the next generation of judokas.

Rafa Muñoz, president of both the Ceuta Judo Federation and the Ushiro Club, emphasized the importance of hosting elite athletes to promote a strong connection between our cities.

The camp also marked the debut of latest tatami mats, a long-standing goal for Muñoz, enhancing judo practice in the region.
