In 2021, the Chilean Olympic Committee, together with the Chilean Judo Federation (FEJUCHILE) and its Education Area, started an ambitious program of Certification of Competencies for Judo Technicians in the country. This project seeks to strengthen the technical and pedagogical capabilities of coaches, with the goal of further professionalizing the discipline and guaranteeing a quality standard of judoka training.
A program designed for excellence
2024 marks a milestone in the launch of the first Course for Trainerswhere young and experienced technicians from different clubs participated with enthusiasm, proving their commitment to the development of Chilean judo.
Sensei Ken Suzuki, who manages the Education Area, explains the features of the course, highlighting its comprehensive approach:
- 60 hours leveling in Sports Sciences
- 20 hours dedicated to Safe Sports
- 80 hours Common Plan in Sports Sciences
- 60 hours of Specific Judo Plancovers topics such as the principles and foundations of judo, hygiene and safety, refereeing, tests and physical control.
- 20 hour practical workshop
- 40 hours of professional practice under instruction.
In addition, Sensei Suzuki explained that the program has a second accreditation route called Recognition of Prior Learning (RAP)which evaluates the competencies of coaches through documentation and interviews.
«This initiative seeks to build a strong, uniform and progressive base in the technical training of our judokas. “This will allow the national teams to be fed with more technically prepared athletes, which will translate into better results at the international level,” Sensei Ken emphasized.
A commitment to professionalization
The President of FEJUCHILE emphasized the importance of this certification:
“This program represents a fundamental step in the professionalization of our coaches, which is in line with our goal of raising the technical level of judo in Chile. Through National Coaching System“We will guarantee excellent training that will have a positive impact on the development of our athletes.”
