The Princess of Sports Award awarded to Carolina Marín is a cause for celebration for the Asturian badminton family. This is how the president of the Asturian federation, David Gómez Casanovas, expresses it: “We are very happy, happy and proud that Carolina has received this award. She is an example for all athletes for her effort and sacrifice, and has shown that when you work well the results come out.”
The happiness is also shared by the most important badminton team in the region, CB Oviedo, which, after twelve seasons in the highest national category, Honor Division, will compete next year in Primera Oro. “It is a well-deserved recognition We are super happy first for her, who will be very proud, and then for badminton, to which she gives very important visibility,” says César González, technical director of the club, who celebrates that his sport is “increasingly recognized” thanks , largely due to the influence of the Olympic champion: “We have greatly noticed Carolina’s relevance. Many people know badminton because of her. Nobody could have dreamed that a player of such caliber would emerge in Spain.”
For her part, Aitana Martínez, coordinator of Badminton Astures, stressed, along the same lines as González, that all of Marín’s successes are “good for badminton and for the clubs to continue increasing the youth pool”: “Carolina helps a lot to a minority sport like ours”. For Martínez, the Huelva native is “a fighter” capable of resurfacing in a year “as special” as the current one, with the celebration of the Paris Olympic Games.
