The Huelva Sports Press Association (AOPD) celebrated this Monday, December 23, the XXXVI Huelva Sports Gala at the Corrales Cinema Theater, an event that stood out for its emotionality and for recognizing the achievements and dedication of the province’s athletes. The gala, presented by Miguel Ángel Yáñez, brought together numerous personalities from the sporting, institutional and social spheres of Huelva.
The event began with the delivery of the PSports Excellence award to Carolina Marínrecognized for her extraordinary career in badminton. The winner expressed her excitement at receiving this recognition in her homeland, stating: “It is a pleasure and an honor to have been given this award, I feel happy to be home.” The delivery was made by David Toscano, president of the Huelva Provincial Council, who also highlighted the relevance of Marín as a sporting reference.
Highlights of the night included the following recognitions:
- Sports Promise Award: Inés Martín Benito, a young gymnast from Huelva, received this award accompanied by her coach Inmaculada Márquez, who highlighted her commitment and continued success in national competitions.
- Special mention to Ayamonte CF: In the year of its centenary, the club was honored as a symbol of sport in the town. Its president, Genaro Aguilera, received the recognition along with the mayor of Ayamonte, Alberto Fernández.
- Best Club in the Province: The award went to IES La Orden, which continues to shine for its management and sporting successes in badminton. María Eugenia Lorenzo and Paco Ojeda thanked the recognition on behalf of the club.
- Sports Projection Award: Davinchi, young talent from Recreativo de Huelva and the Spanish U-18 National Team, was recognized for his promising career.
- Sports Legend: Patri Rubio, former La Palma player, received this tribute for his career in national soccer.
- Sports Improvement: Augusto García, world champion of paddelsurfing, highlighted the importance of the beaches of Huelva for his discipline.
- Gold Athlete: David Sánchez, Paralympic swimmer, and Laura García-Caro were awarded for their exceptional impact on sport. Both highlighted the value of equality in the sporting field. Like the paddler Álvaro Robles, the last winner of the gala, who received the award from the president of the Provincial Council of Huelva.
Other awardees included Nicolás Sainz, sports psychologist; MotoRocío, for his work in the motorcycle pilgrimage; Adrián Márquez, as Best Coach; and the Finals of the Basketball Queen’s Cup, recognized as the Best Sports Event.
The closing of the gala was in charge of David Toscano, who stressed that “this celebration is a sample of the effort, dedication and pride that the athletes of Huelva represent for the entire province.”
The AOPD thanked the Aljaraque City Council for its support, the Provincial Council of HuelvaEl Corte Inglés and the Port of Huelva, and reiterated its commitment to recognizing the sporting talent of Huelva, consolidating this event as an unmissable event on the provincial sports calendar.
