Cristina Bucsa Completes Merida Sweep, Wins Singles and Doubles Titles

Spanish Player Claims First WTA Singles Title
Cristina Bucsa, ranked 63rd in the world, has won the singles title at the Merida Open (Mexico, Merida, hard, WTA500), defeating Magda Linette, ranked 57th, in a three-set match: 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. This marks Bucsa’s first singles title on the WTA tour.
Bucsa didn’t stop there, also securing the doubles championship, completing a remarkable sweep of both titles at the tournament.
Road to the Championship
Bucsa’s path to the final included victories over Donna Vekic (ranked 100th), Marina Stakusic (ranked 142nd), and Zeynep Sonmez (ranked 81st) in the quarterfinals. She then defeated top seed Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals.
In the final, Bucsa won 74 percent of points on her first serve. Despite losing the second set after allowing two breaks, she secured the decisive break in the tenth game of the final set, winning the match in 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Doubles Success
Partnering with Jiang Xinyu, Bucsa defeated Ingrid Haverlak and Miriam Ramsden in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to claim the doubles title. This is Bucsa’s eighth career doubles title.
Previous Achievements
Prior to this victory, Bucsa had seven doubles tour championships to her name, but had not yet secured a singles title.
