Wallhöfen Badminton: Key Players Move On as New Season Approaches

In a significant blow to Wallhöfen’s badminton scene, the long-standing doubles pairing of Tebbe Monsees and Vin Assmus has gone their separate ways, just weeks ahead of the 2023-2024 season. The dynamic duo, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Landesliga North last season, have decided to pursue new opportunities, leaving the club with a considerable void to fill.

Tebbe Monsees and Vin Assmus, the successful doubles pair from Wallhöfen Badminton, have parted ways ahead of the new season.

Vin Assmus’ Oberliga Ambitions

The primary factor in Assmus’ decision to leave Wallhöfen was his desire to test himself in the Oberliga. Despite the considerable commitment involved, the young player is eager to take on the challenge. “The effort is enormous, but Vin really wanted to try Oberliga,” said Niko Lütjen, the club’s coach, who had been searching for a suitable replacement for Assmus for several weeks.

Lütjen found a strong candidate in Yannick Rohdenburg, a 27-year-old experienced player from Rotenburg. “I’ve known Yannick for a long time, and I would have loved to have him join Wallhöfen last summer,” Lütjen said. However, the coach acknowledges that the departure of Assmus and the loss of another integral player, Boji Wong, who moved back to Cloppenburg, have left the men’s team with a significant rebuilding task.

  • Yannick Rohdenburg – New addition from Rotenburg
  • Yannick Niemann
  • Jakob Puckhaber
  • Mathis Jaskosch

Lütjen admits that the men’s team faces a challenging season ahead, as they will have to rely on their veterans to maintain competitiveness. “It’s going to be tough with men. We’ll need to pull together and stick together to make it a relaxed season,” he said.

Women’s Team Looks Stronger

Despite the departure of Tanja Assmus, who had been a long-term support to the first team, the women’s side seems to be in better shape. Jale Assmus, Joana Tietjen, and Sarah Kück will share the playing responsibilities, with Assmus splitting her time between her studies at the ASC in Göttingen and her commitments to Wallhöfen.

Assmus’ Ongoing Involvement

While Vin Assmus has officially joined TV Metjendorf, he will continue to train with his former teammates at Wallhöfen. “He stays close to the team, and who knows what will happen in a year,” said Lütjen, suggesting that the door may not be entirely closed on a potential return for the popular player.

Looking Ahead

The new season begins on Sunday, September 7, and Wallhöfen will face their challenges head-on. The club’s fans will hope that the team’s resilience and determination will help them navigate the obstacles and secure a successful campaign.
