Bruins Bolster Forward Depth with Trade for Gendron and Rizzo
The Boston Bruins have added forward depth to their organization, acquiring Alexis Gendron and Massimo Rizzo from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Brett Harrison and defenseman Jackson Edward. The transaction, announced on March 6, 2026, sees the players move to new AHL assignments.
New Faces in Boston
Alexis Gendron, 22, brings a scoring touch from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL), where he registered 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 47 games this season. He has appeared in 127 career AHL games, all with the Phantoms, totaling 57 points (35 goals, 22 assists). Gendron was originally selected by Philadelphia in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Massimo Rizzo, 24, joins the Bruins organization after playing in the ECHL and AHL. He recorded 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 29 games with the Reading Royals (ECHL) this season. Rizzo previously spent the 2024-25 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, accumulating 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 46 games. He also boasts a strong collegiate background, having played three seasons at the University of Denver (2021-24) where his team won two national championships.
Departing Players
In return, the Flyers receive Brett Harrison, 22, who had 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 46 games with the Providence Bruins this season. Harrison was a third-round pick by Boston in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Defenseman Jackson Edward, 22, also heads to Philadelphia. He appeared in nine games with Providence and 21 with the Maine Mariners (ECHL), registering seven assists.
Really, really wish Brett and Jackson luck. Two really, really great young kids who have a bright future in front of them as hockey players. They’re good kids,”Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney
Sweeney indicated that Gendron and Rizzo will report to the AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
Looking Ahead
The Bruins remain focused on their playoff push, currently holding a playoff position with 21 regular season games remaining. Sweeney expressed confidence in the current roster, stating:
We stayed committed, there’s no question we didn’t deviate from what we felt was the right choice. Hopefully that pays dividends right now with the guys that are still here, due to the fact that they’ve earned that right to carry us forward, and moving forward as an organization,”Sweeney
The Bruins are scheduled to face the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
