Avanti House was selected as a school with a ‘firm commitment to ensuring a healthy environment and conditions for students and community members, and to helping them reach their potential and succeed.’
Hindu schools are open to students between the ages of 11 and 19, and although their ethos is derived from the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, they are completely inclusive schools with no faith-based admission criteria. Anyone who wants to apply to the school can apply.
But what is most unique about this learning place is that in addition to following a traditional curriculum, this free school also teaches students additional subjects like yoga, philosophy, ethics, Sanskrit, and meditation.
Their website states: ‘At Avanti House, we provide a holistic education that develops confident, creative young people to succeed in adult life.
‘We place equal emphasis on the development of character and spiritual insight, as well as on top academic achievement.’
Avanti Schools Trust recently shared a statement on the award nomination, saying: “We are delighted to announce that Avanti House Secondary School has been nominated as a finalist for the top three schools in the world for supporting healthy living!
‘This recognition reflects our efforts to promote wellbeing, mindfulness and a balanced lifestyle for all our students.’
London Mayor Sadiq Khan also congratulated the school on its progress to the final three places in the competition.
He said: ‘It’s fantastic that Avanti House has been nominated for the World’s Best School Award. I would like to congratulate the teachers, parents and students for their hard work.

The three finalist schools alongside Avanti House are Istituto Galilei-Costa-Scarambone in Lisbon, Italy, and Middleton International School in Singapore.
The winner will be announced in October and will share a $50,000 prize. The school will also be invited to a summit in Dubai.
