Schneider in Talks for Long-Term Deal

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider is engaged in discussions regarding a long-term contract extension, according to recent reports. Schneider expressed his desire to remain with the team, stating, if there’s a way to do [an extension] for both sides that makes sense, that’d be great….We’ll continue to talk and there’s no place I’d rather be than with this group.

Schneider was initially promoted from bench coach to interim manager in July 2022 following the dismissal of Charlie Montoyo. His successful run led to a three-year contract, which included a club option for 2026 that was exercised after the team’s strong performance.

Blue Jays’ Recent Success Under Schneider

Under Schneider’s leadership, the Blue Jays have achieved a 303-257 record and secured postseason berths three times in four seasons. The 2024 season was an exception, with the team finishing at 74-88.

Varsho’s Contract Situation

The situation surrounding outfielder Daulton Varsho is more complex. While the Blue Jays have expressed interest in an extension, Varsho is represented by Scott Boras, whose clients often prefer to test free agency. Varsho himself stated, I stay out of those [extension] conversations, I don’t want to be in them. He did, yet, express his enjoyment of playing for the Blue Jays, saying, I love being here. They treat families really well and they do everything to kind of keep players here…I’ve enjoyed my time. I’m going to keep enjoying it.

A strong 2026 season could significantly increase Varsho’s value on the open market.

Jimenez Transitioning to First Base

Minor league signing Eloy Jimenez is reportedly focusing on learning first base. He has logged some games at the position in the Blue Jays’ and Rays’ farm system, as well as in Winter League play. This positional shift could improve his chances of making the major league roster, given Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s established role at first base.

Jimenez hit .270/.321/.469 with 94 home runs over 2026 PA with the White Sox from 2019-24.
