Paire’s Surprise Entry Boosts Troyes Tournament

TROYES, France — In an unexpected turn of events, former world No. 18 Benoît Paire will grace the courts of the Troyes International Tennis tournament after accepting a wildcard entry, organizers confirmed today. The Frenchman, who recently commented on the Roland-Garros tournament for France.tv, will make his debut on Tuesday, July 1, in the night session.

Organizers’ Daring Move Pays Off

To attract the 36-year-old veteran, who boasts nearly 50 Grand Slam appearances, the organizers of the Aube-based event had to think outside the box. “We wanted to bring a touch of innovation to our event,” explains Valentin Carillon, who co-runs the tournament with his father Philippe. “Every year, we invite former greats for a gala match, but it was losing its appeal. We thought, why not invite a player who could attract significant attention?”

And attract significant attention Paire has, following his social media announcement last week, shortly after his first-round exit at the Royan Challenger tournament.

“An Exciting Opportunity for Troyes Fans”

, currently ranked around 90th in the world, was initially set to spearhead the tournament. However, his withdrawal opened the door for Paire, who will now be the main attraction. Valentin Carillon shares, “We never anticipated having a player of Paire’s caliber join our tournament. It’s an exciting opportunity for our Troyes fans who might not otherwise have the chance to witness a player of his caliber live.”

Free Entry for All Fans

Typically drawing around 15,000 spectators over eight days, the Troyes International Tennis tournament is expected to see an uplift in attendance thanks to Paire’s participation. With free entry for all matches, including Paire’s debut, organizers anticipate a significant crowd turn-out for Tuesday’s night session.
