Lidl-Trek’s Belgian Rouleur Edward Theuns Extended through 2027

Experienced Belgian Rouleur Inks Two-Year Extension

Lidl-Trek is thrilled to announce that veteran Belgian rouleur Edward Theuns has signed a two-year contract extension, committing him to the team through 2027. Theuns, a nine-year staple with Lidl-Trek, has played pivotal roles in classics, leadouts, and occasionally as a sprinter. He has amassed 10 victories, including a memorable return to the top step at the Bredene Koksijde Classic in 2025.

From White Jersey to Green Jersey Lead-Out: Theuns’ Career Progression

Since Italian sprinter Jonny Milan joined the team in 2024, Theuns has been instrumental in his lead-out train, contributing to more than 10 of Milan’s victories. Theuns’ Tour de France appearances—five in total—have seen him evolve from wearing the White Jersey for best young rider to playing a crucial role in Milan’s Green Jersey triumph.

Theuns Reflects on Contract Extension

It feels like the second part of my career, where all the experience I’ve built is now coming together in this role.

Celebrating Victories and Team Spirit

Reflecting on his time with Lidl-Trek, Theuns shared, “My best memories over the last years have been celebrating victories together with the Team—those moments are always special. Winning the Bredene Classic this year was particularly meaningful. Another highlight has been working with Simone and Jonny in the leadouts. It feels like the second part of my career, where all the experience I’ve built is now coming together in this role.”

General Manager Luca Guercilena’s Perspective

“Eddie has been an integral part of the Team for nearly a decade, and his transition into a leadout rider has been impressive,” said Luca Guercilena, Lidl-Trek General Manager. “It’s a role that fits him perfectly—combining his speed, race craft and positioning skills—and together with Simone and Jonny he has become a key piece of our sprint success. His own victory this year at Bredene was the perfect reward for his commitment and showed that when he has his own chance he can still be a race winner. Eddie brings experience, loyalty, and energy, and we are delighted to continue this journey with him.”
