Bahrain Championship: Calum Hill Holds Narrow Lead, Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia Ready to Pounce
Leader in Sight
Calum Hill retains a one-stroke advantage as the Bahrain Championship nears its conclusion. After three rounds, Hill sits at -16, following a 72 on Saturday. Behind him, a chase pack of star-studded golfers, including Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia, are hot on his heels.
Hill Holds Steady
Calum Hill admits his second round wasn’t as polished as his opening two, but he remains content with his position. “I felt like I played well, I just made a few mistakes… I managed to come back a bit on the last nine holes and put myself in a good position for tomorrow. I’ll take a few steps ahead for Sunday.”
I know the lead has diminished a little, but I’m not going to beat myself up. It’s not the end of the world.
Reed and Garcia Ready to Pounce
Both Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia are within striking distance, tied for third place at -12. Reed, fresh off a victory in Dubai, is confident in his game and ready to challenge. “I feel like the work we’ve been doing on the full swing is really paying off. I am really comfortable and confident in this sector… Tomorrow I will be the hunter!”
Garcia echoes Reed’s sentiment, “Winning a 17th time on the European Tour would be really good. This will require playing very well. The number 17 means a lot to me. I got married on 17, I won the Masters in 2017…
Freddy Schott Chases
Freddy Schott, currently in second place at -14, is four strokes behind Hill. He’s not dwelling on the gap, “I just thought I could fill this deficit and make up for it over 36 holes. I’m just going to continue doing what we’ve been doing since Thursday, and we should be fine tomorrow.”
