Basavareddy Taps Gilles Cervara as New Coach Ahead of Next Gen ATP Finals
Nishesh Basavareddy, the 20-year-old American tennis prodigy, has started working with a new coach as he prepares for the upcoming Next Gen ATP Finals. Gilles Cervara, the man who guided Daniil Medvedev to world No. 1 and multiple Grand Slam triumphs, has joined Basavareddy’s team.
Basavareddy’s Breakout Season
Basavareddy, a Stanford University alum, turned pro last December and has since enjoyed a meteoric rise. He reached his first ATP Tour semifinal in Auckland, captured a set from 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, and climbed to a career-high No. 99 in the PIF ATP Rankings. His standout performances earned him a spot at the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.
Cervara’s Impressive Track Record
Cervara, a well-respected coach in the tennis world, is known for transforming Medvedev into a Grand Slam champion and ATP Tour No. 1. In 2019, he was named ATP Coach of the Year. After parting ways with Medvedev last August, Cervara has now joined forces with Basavareddy to help him reach the next level of his career.
Next Gen ATP Finals Lineup
Basavareddy will be joined by seven other talented players at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from December 17 to 21: Jakub Mensik, Learner Tien, Alexander Blockx, Dino Prizmic, Martin Landaluce, Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, and Rafael Jodar.
