PGA Tour Americas stops in Windsor, Canada saw a thrilling finish with Ricardo ‘Stocking cap’ Celia earning his best result of the season. The Barranquilla, Colombia native secured third place at the BioSteel Championship, catapulting him to 12th on the Fortinet Cup standings.

Celia’s Impressive Performance

Celia ended the tournament tied with Brendon Doyle (USA) with 261 strokes, a mere two strokes behind champion Michael Brennan (USA). Connor Howe (USA) followed closely with 260 strokes, earning second place.

Fortinet Cup Points and Ranking Uplift

The podium finish granted Celia 145 points, vaulting him up four positions to 12th on the Fortinet Cup rankings. This performance caps off a resurgent form for Celia, who started the season strongly with four Top 20 finishes at the Latin American swing.

Bouncing Back from a Slow Start

Reflecting on his performance, Celia commented, “The first day I ended up frustrated because I had played well and ended up -1. I’m very proud of the way I fought back.” Indeed, Celia’s steady performance over the remaining rounds saw him tie the 100th place after an improved first round score of 1-low pair 69.

The Journey So Far

Celia’s journey this season hasn’t been smooth sailing. After a promising start with four Top 20 finishes, including a second place in the Kia Open of Ecuador, he struggled in the following six tournaments, missing three cuts with a best finish of 36th place.

Preparing for the Next Challenge

With a 53.26 point gap to the Top-10 on the Fortinet Cup, Celia plans to use the upcoming break to travel to Florida. There, he will work with coaches Jorge Mesa and Hernán Rey, aiming to build on his recent success. “I will practice, prepare in the best way for what’s coming. Take everything positive and work on what I need to be solid these weeks,” Celia declared.
