Rohatgi, who is also representing Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, said he will file an application seeking contempt against the IMA president. The senior counsel sought permission to bring on record the entire page of newspapers containing the public apology published by Patanjali.

Next hearing after two weeks

The next hearing of the case will take place after two weeks. Earlier, the Supreme Court had questioned whether Patanjali’s printed apology was of the same size as the advertisements. In an affidavit presented before the Supreme Court, the Uttarakhand government said its state licensing authority has given permission to file a complaint against Ramdev, Balkrishna, Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd for repeated violations of the drug advertising law and The manufacturing licenses of 14 of their products have been suspended.

Exemption from next appearance

Also, the Supreme Court said that the statement of the IMA President should be brought on record. This is a very serious matter. Get ready to face the consequences. Baba Ramdev sought exemption from appearance in the next hearing. On this the court said okay, only for the next hearing. Apology letter published in 67 newspapers

A hearing was also held in the Supreme Court on April 23 on the misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurveda. During the hearing of the case, the attitude of the court remained as strict as before. During the hearing, Patanjali Ayurveda told the court that it had published its apology in 67 newspapers. Referring to this, Patanjali said that he respects the court a lot and will not make such a mistake again.

Rs 10 lakh spent on advertisements – Patanjali

On this, the court asked whether the size of the apology printed in the newspapers was the same as the full page advertisement of Patanjali products? On this, Patanjali claimed that it spent Rs 10 lakh on these advertisements. The bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice A Amanullah asked Baba Ramdev why an apology was filed in the court just a week before the start of the hearing of the case.

The court said, we want to see the size of the advertisements

Baba Ramdev and his associate Acharya Balkrishna were present in the court during the hearing. The court asked Patanjali to combine all the advertisements and present them before the bench. The bench said that it wanted to see the size in which the apology letter was published in the newspapers. The court said that it will hold the next hearing on misleading advertisements on April 30.

Court also surrounded FMCG and IMA

The top court also took on FMCG and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over misleading advertisements. The court said that MMCs are also publishing misleading advertisements and taking people’s health lightly. The consumption of these products is affecting the health of infants, school going children and senior citizens. The court ordered all the entities giving licenses to these FMCs in the states and union territories to be made parties in the case.
