AYUSH Ministry Criticizes Patanjali’s Allopathic Medicine Claims: Health Care Options Highlighted

After the strict orders and comments of the Supreme Court in the misleading advertisement case, the Ministry of AYUSH has now criticized the statements of Patanjali regarding allopathic medicines. The central government has advocated an integrated health care system through its affidavit. It has been emphasized that individuals also have the option to avail the benefits of AYUSH or allopathic medicines.

During the Corona pandemic, Patanjali’s medicine Coronil was warned against presenting it as a treatment for the virus. And said that it should not be publicized until the Ministry of AYUSH gives its due investigation report. After this, Patanjali was asked by the ministry to conduct necessary tests.

At the same time, the Ministry of AYUSH has also highlighted the importance of mutual respect between different systems of medicine. The ministry says the current policy of the Government of India advocates a model of integrated health care system with integration of AYUSH systems with allopathy. It is the choice of an individual or healthcare seeker to avail the services of AYUSH system or allopathic medicine.

Notice issued to Patanjali

The Health Ministry received various representations regarding Coronil, following which a notice was issued to Patanjali and the company was requested to withdraw until the matter is fully investigated by the Ministry. Till then it should not advertise claims about the efficacy of Coronil against COVID-19. The government is encouraged to utilize the strengths of each health care system for the betterment of the overall health of its citizens.

Baba Ramdev and Balakrishna will appear personally in SC

At the same time, before appearing in person in the Supreme Court today, Patanjali MD Acharya Balkrishna and Baba Ramdev have filed an affidavit and tendered an unconditional apology. In the apology, Ramdev and Balkrishna have said that they will fully comply with the order and will maintain the dignity of justice. Patanjali has filed a detailed reply regarding the misleading advertisement. Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna will appear personally in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Both were asked to appear before the court in connection with the show cause notice.
