Trier Aims to Continue Undefeated Streak Against Struggling Braunschweig

Gladiators Face Bottom-Dwelling Braunschweig
The VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier travel to face Basketball Löwen Braunschweig on Sunday, continuing a busy stretch of games that includes upcoming matchups against Hamburg Towers. Trier is looking to build on their strong start to the season, while Braunschweig seeks to climb out of last place in the easyCredit BBL standings.
Braunschweig Undergoes Changes
Braunschweig currently holds the league’s worst record with five wins in 23 games, prompting a coaching change in mid-February with the appointment of Spaniard Ramon Diaz. Despite the change, the Lions have struggled, losing three consecutive games to Frankfurt Skyliners, Würzburg, Bamberg, and Munich.
The team has also been active in the player market, recently signing guard Bryant Crawford.
New Signings Bolster Braunschweig’s Offense
Recent acquisitions are already making an impact for Braunschweig. Center Oluwasimisola Shittu is averaging 18.4 points and 10.4 rebounds in his five appearances. Point guard Kaza Kajami-Keane, also with five games played, is contributing 14.0 points per game. Grant Sherfield (13.7 points), David N’Guessan (12.5 points), Barra Njie (9.6 points), Luka Scuka (9.5 points), and Joshua Obiesie (9.4 points) provide additional offensive support. Ferdinand Zylka (8.4 points), Chip Flanigan (7.1 points), and Benjamin Schröder (5.7 points) round out the rotation.
Statistically, Trier leads the league in points per game with 90.6, while Braunschweig ranks near the bottom at 79.2.
Schneider on the Importance of Defense
“We expect that we will face a team that more or less plays do-or-die games and has a lot of pressure. They have improved since the coaching change, had a lot of close results and also played well against Bayern Munich in the first half. With the new signing at the point guard position, they have significantly strengthened their personnel. The same applies to us as against Heidelberg and we want and have to identify our way into the game through defense. That’s what we took away from the Heidelberg game, as well as that we worked well in defensive rebounding and one-on-one defense, which we want to continue to build on.”
Jacques Schneider, Head Coach of the VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier
