The gold medals of Dominique Barra, Damarist Fumey, Victoria Vargas and Tatiana Palma were fundamental to this achievement. In addition to these medals, the representatives of our region won 7 bronze medals

The joy was total among the judo delegation of Arica and Parinacota, after finishing the judo competition in the national School Sports Games, which was held at the Contact Sports Training Center in the National Stadium Park.

In fact, the women’s team led on this occasion by Professor Cristian Cáceres, for the second consecutive year raised the champion’s cup of this event, after adding 4 gold medals and 1 bronze, which allowed them to receive from the hands of the Director Regional of the IND of the Metropolitan Region, Alexandra Benado, the cup that accredits them as champions of Chile, being escorted by the Antofagasta and Metropolitan Regions.

The gold medals were obtained by North American College students Dominique Barra Ardiles (-44 kg), Victoria Vargas Mazzei (-58 kg) and Tatiana Palma Maldonado (-64 kg) and the Liceo Jovina Naranjo Fernández student, Damarist Fumey Mura ( – 46 kg). Meanwhile, Dolly Vargas Suárez (-53 kg) from the Alta Cordillera school won the bronze medal.

In this way, the golden athletes will represent Chile in the South American School Games that will be held next December in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

For Dominique Barra, this will be a new opportunity to demonstrate that in our region there is talent and good work in this discipline.

“Last year I was in the South American school competition representing our country and our region. So I couldn’t be happier. “It has been hard and very disciplined work, and like 2023, I hope to win a medal again in Colombia.”

For her part, Victoria Vargas Mazzei, who took revenge for last year’s result (the occasion in which she won a bronze medal), clarified to us that this achievement is part of the goals she has set.

“Since 2019 I have been practicing judo. Today I have the opportunity to be in the Promesas Chile program of IND Arica, where they have supported me, along with my club and school, to grow more every day. My dream has always been to go compete abroad, especially in a world championship. Today we achieve one more goal!: to be the school champion of Chile and to be able to be in the South American Championship in Colombia at the beginning of December, which will undoubtedly help me in my sporting development,” said the NAC student.

But the ladies were not the only ones who won medals. Juan Tapia Tapia (-40 kg) from the North American College, Nicolás Venegas Fernández (-48 kg) from the Adventist School, Germán Herrera Elizondo (-53 kg) from the Humberto Valenzuela School, Máximo Araya Miranda (-58 kg) also did so. from the Eduardo Frei Montalva Integrated High School, Nehymar Ayala Riascos (-64 kg) from the Cardenal Ricardo Silva Henríquez School and Jhon Quispe Lipa (+64 kg) from the América School, who obtained a bronze medal.
