The coach of the Chilean women’s Field Hockey team, Sergio ‘Cachito’ Vigil, has been receiving immense praise for his exceptional leadership since taking charge in 2015. Under his guidance, the team has achieved remarkable success in the past two seasons.

Achieving Historic Milestones

Vigil, originally from Argentina, has been directing the Chilean team since the end of 2015, and the results speak for themselves. In 2022, Chile participated in their first-ever adult World Cup held in Spain and the Netherlands, leaving a lasting mark in history. Additionally, they clinched the gold medal in the Odesur of Paraguay, triumphing over their arch-rivals Argentina in the final.

The following year, in 2023, Vigil led the team to an emotional bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago. The players showcased their skills and determination by defeating Canada 2-0, securing their place on the podium.

A Key Figure in Chilean Hockey

Vigil’s contribution to the national team’s success cannot be overstated. His leadership has propelled the team to new heights, and now they have their sights set on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.

Expressing his gratitude, Vigil stated, “Chile and the hockey community have made me fall in love with being here. They have shown me immense trust and affection, making Chile and the dream of Chilean hockey feel like my own home. I am truly happy and grateful for the affection and commitment I have received over the past seven years.”
