ANBF and SIJUBA Sign Historic Collective Agreement for Women’s Basketball League Players

On May 8, 2024, the BOE published the collective agreement for basketball players who provide their services in clubs in the women’s basketball league. This agreement, with code 99100295012024, was signed by the National Women’s Basketball Association (ANBF) and the Basketball Players Union (SIJUBA).

Scope of application and duration

The agreement regulates the working conditions of the players of the First National Women’s Basketball Division (ENDESA League), including those with licenses in subsidiary teams called up to the first team. Its validity extends from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension.

Rights and obligations

Provisions are established regarding working hours, breaks, vacations, medical examinations, and prevention of occupational risks. In addition, the contract modalities, the trial period, and the conditions for temporary assignments and early termination of the contract due to definitive assignment are detailed.

Economic conditions

The agreement specifies salary concepts, including monthly salary, extraordinary payments, and bonuses for objectives. A minimum guaranteed remuneration of 16,000 euros is guaranteed full-time per season.

The collective text also regulates the right to image exploitation, compensation for death or disabling injury for any work activity or economic benefits during temporary disability.

Hiring

Annex I of the agreement establishes a model contract.

All employment contracts entered into by virtue of this agreement between the Clubs/SAD and the Basketball Players must be full-time, with part-time contracts not permitted.

Rights and freedoms

The players’ freedom of expression is recognized and measures against workplace harassment are established. In addition, the reconciliation of family and professional life is promoted and measures are detailed in case of situations of gender violence.

Social improvements and other provisions

The agreement addresses the right to study and cultural training, as well as integration programs in the post-sports career labor market. A disciplinary regime is also included to guarantee compliance with the agreement.
