Once again the senior national competition season reaches its most important moment with the celebration of the Spanish Championship. This year it was held in the town of A Estrada (Pontevedra) on May 3, 4 and 5 and was attended by four representatives of the Albacete Badminton Club: Laura Quereda, Cristina Lamas, José Belmonte and Miguel Serrano. Although the group seems short in terms of the number of representatives, they have achieved unprecedented success in Castilian-La Mancha badminton, the bronze medal in the general club count.
The final result could have even been even better since both Cristina Lamas and Miguel Serrano (numbers 1-2 in the national ranking and favorites in several of their events) have competed injured and greatly diminished in their condition, to the point of having to resign. to play several finals in which they were classified and with serious chances of winning. Even so, Miguel has once again been proclaimed champion of Spain, this time in the men’s doubles category with his current playing partner Bernardo Galmés (Caser Clear), and suffering from a serious injury to his shoulder that has prevented him from developing and enjoying his game.
A new Spanish champion title was added to the racket of José Belmonte, who joined the club’s ranks this season, in the men’s doubles category with Paco Ruiz (Hoyo de Manzanares). He won a second medal, this time bronze, in the individual event.
Triple medals for the two women, both Laura Quereda and Cristina Lamas return from Galician lands with medals in the three events in which they participated. Two silvers and a bronze are the loot of an injured Cristina who had to give up at the last moment to compete in the two finals in which she had qualified with great effort and in which she had serious options to obtain the title. Huge performance, on her part, by Laura Quereda who gets her first three bronze medals in the Spanish Championship.
