Phillies Sign Former Rangers Outfielder

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed outfielder Adolis García to a one-year, $10 million contract for the 2026 season, the team announced Monday. The move comes as the Phillies seek to bolster their outfield production.

A Look Back at García’s Career

García, a Cuban-born outfielder, has previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Yomiuri Giants (NPB). He was an MLB All-Star in both 2021 and 2023. He won the 2023 World Series with the Rangers, earning ALCS MVP honors and setting a postseason record with 22 RBIs.

The 32-year-old (born March 2, 1993) hit a career-high 39 home runs with Texas in 2023. He followed that with 25 home runs in 2024 and 19 in 2025, while dealing with injuries.

Recent Performance and Phillies’ Strategy

While García’s power remains evident, his overall production dipped in the last two seasons. He posted a combined .675 OPS and 96 OPS+ over those years, compared to a .777 OPS and 113 OPS+ from 2021-2023.

“I’m just preparing to have a decent season here,” said García.

García hit .227 with 19 hits, 75 RBIs, a .665 OPS and a 93 OPS+ last season with the Rangers, who did not offer him a contract in the winter.

The signing of García may signal a shift in the Phillies’ outfield plans, potentially replacing the recently discarded Nick Castellanos. While Castellanos’ performance has fallen short of expectations, the Phillies have consistently sought solutions to improve their outfield production.
