Not only did Bangladesh lose the series against Afghanistan, they also lost two of the team’s most important cricketers, Mushfiqur Rahim and Nazmul Hossain Shanto, for a long time. The red-green team will have to play two Test matches in the West Indies without them.
Bangladesh will play a two-day warm-up match in the Caribbean from 8 pm on Sunday. In this warm-up match, the team management has a mission to find an alternative to Shanto-Mushfiqur. West Indies Cricket Board XI against Bangladesh in preparation stage at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the Test series in the West Indies, leaving out Shanto. But a last-minute change had to be made when Shantao was knocked out with a groin injury. Right-handed batsman Shahadat Hossain Dipu has been called up in his place. Mushfiqur was not in the announced squad as his injury was diagnosed earlier.
Dipur along with Mahidul Islam finally joined the team. They could not go initially due to delay in obtaining visas. Earlier, the Test members of the ODI team flew from Dubai and only the Test cricketers flew to Windies from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh last played in West Indies in 2022. Seber also played warm-up matches at the Coolidge Cricket Ground. It comes in two days for the Afghanistan series, despite the four-day warm-up matches. Dipu-Ankan played in the National Cricket League and was preparing for the red ball.
On the other hand, Zaker Ali Anik along with Taskin Ahmed, Shariful Islam are returning. None of the three were in the last Test against South Africa. Taskin-Shariful was not in the squad. Although Zaker got a concussion in practice, he was dropped from the team. Instead, he made his debut in drawing.
The first Test of the two-match series will begin on November 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The second and final Test of the series will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica from November 30. After the Test series ends, the three-match ODI series will begin from December 8. After the one-day cricket series, the two teams will fight in the short version of T20 cricket from March 16.
