2025 Season Set to Break KBO Pro Baseball Attendance Record in Lifetime Minimum Games
астроonomical Attendances, Yanggang Rivalry Heats Up the 2025 KBO League Season
The 2025 KBO League season is writing its name in the history books, as it stands on the cusp of breaking the 6 million attendance milestone in the fewest games ever.
As of June 15, the league has mobilized 596,777 spectators in just 345 games, needing only 31,223 more to reach the 6 million attendance mark. If no games are canceled due to rain, the record is expected to fall during the five games scheduled for June 17.
This year, it is more likely to shorten the record of about 60 games. If the current trend continues, with an average of 17,301 people per game, until the end of the season, the season is expected to exceed 110 million spectators last year.연합뉴스
LG, Hanwha Lock Horns in Intense 1st Place Battle
The heating up of the attendance records coincides with the white-hot first-place race between the LG Twins and Hanwha Eagles. The Eagles, fueled by a powerful starting rotation, claimed the top spot on June 15 after a rain-delayed victory over the Twins, ending LG’s 33-day reign.
Hanwha’s stingy pitchers, Lotte’s ‘gum baseball’ on display
The Eagles, boasting a formidable starting pitching staff, have won 4 of their last 5 games and are determined to hold onto the top spot. They’ll face a stern challenge from the Lotte Giants in a crucial three-game series in Busan starting on June 18.
- This season, Hanwha leads the head-to-head matchups with Lotte, 3-4.
- Injuries have hampered Lotte, but they’ve battled through, posting a 5-5 record in their last 10 games.
“This is gum baseball at its finest,” a baseball insider remarked, referring to Lotte’s resilient play despite their injuries.
LG aims to retake the throne at Jamsil Stadium
Meanwhile, the LG Twins will look to reclaim the lead at their home park, Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, where they’ll host six consecutive games. During the week, they’ll face the NC Dinos and the struggling Doosan Bears on the weekend.
- LG has struggled against both NC and Doosan this season, with records of 5-3 and 3-3, respectively.
- The Twins have a much higher home winning percentage (.647) than their road winning percentage (.545).
KIA, Samsung, and Kiwoom: A Mixed Bag of Middle- and Bottom-Dwellers
The defending champion KIA Tigers, currently sitting in 7th place, will face the KT Wiz in Gwangju and then travel to Incheon to take on the SSG Landers in a crucial middle-of-the-pack series. Last-place Kiwoom struggles against the league’s best teams, but they’re preparing a surprise with a new foreign import, Lauren Wells, for their matchup against Hanwha.
The Samsung Lions, fresh off a sweep at the hands of the Kiwoom Heroes, will try to rebound against the Doosan Bears in Seoul before facing the Lotte Giants in a weekend “classic series” in Busan.
