Three hundred children participated in the judo tournament organized by the Bernis judo club on Saturday January 11 and Sunday January 12, at the multiactivity room on the route de Nîmes. “Usually, we organize it before Christmas, but this year we couldn’t find a room slot,” specifies the club treasurer while serving pancakes to the parents who came in large numbers. The program was dense for the fifteen volunteers with the youngest children and the judo babies on Saturday, then the chicks, born in 2017 and 2018, on Sunday.
Eleven clubs from the region took part in this meeting which has now existed for more than fifteen years. For local judokas, Sunday saw second place for Paolo Beaudard.
The local club well represented
Her grandmother Blandine Beudard comments: “He doesn’t show it but he’s a little disappointed with this second place.” In a kimono, the young Bernissois, barely 6 years old, is proud of his medal which floats near his white belt with yellow checks. “He won the schools cross country”, outbids the grandmother known in the pétanque world. Lya, 5 years old, also finished second in a tie and represented the Bernis club in a very good way, which has more than a hundred members. His mother is all smiles. There was a large crowd of caring parents, almost 500 people in all that Sunday.
Among the organizers, the presence of Denis Buchard, veteran world champion and guide of the Grau-du-Roi and Aigues Mortes club was noted. He has refereed numerous matches.
The president, Jean-Luc Carlier hosted the various podiums on Saturday and Sunday. The club was able to count on some financial income with the running of the refreshment bar, the popular pancake stand and the raffle with nearly 300 tickets sold. The municipal hall seemed too narrow to accommodate everyone during this weekend with all eyes turned towards the tatami mats. “The Bernis club finished in first place ahead of Vauvert and Poulx-Bezouce.”
