Berlin – The 2026 tennis season is just over two weeks away, and anticipation is building for the return of the world’s top players. While some stars are eager to start their campaigns early, others are opting for a more measured approach.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev has announced he will compete in the group stage of the United Cup, taking place from January 2nd to 5th. The world number three will lead the German team against Poland and the Netherlands. Nine other top 30 players, including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur, are also confirmed to participate in the early-season event.

Alcaraz and Sinner to Skip ATP 250 Events

Not everyone is rushing back to the court, however. World number two Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the sixth-ranked player, have revealed they will not play in any ATP 250 events at the start of the season. Instead, they will meet for a show match in South Korea on January 10th.

“It’s important to come back to Australia well-prepared, and I want to ensure I give myself the best chance to perform at my peak,” Alcaraz said in a recent interview. Sinner echoed these sentiments, adding that he preferred a more settled approach to the season start.

Djokovic’s Approach Remains Unclear

Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has also kept his plans for the first few weeks of the season under wraps. According to a report from Tennisnet.com, the Serb is not expected to play in any ATP 250 events before the Australian Open.

Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Sinner are all set to compete in the Australian Open, which begins on January 18th and runs through to the 31st of the month.
