The 2008 Olympic badminton gold medalist Lee Yong-dae will be inducted into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame.
The BWF announced Tuesday that Lee will be joined by Chinese star Chen Long in the 2024 Hall of Fame class. Their induction ceremony will be held during the BWF World Tour Finals Gala Dinner in Hangzhou, China, next Monday.
Lee won the 2008 Olympic mixed doubles gold medal in Beijing with Lee Hyo-jung at age 19. Then at the 2012 London Olympics, Lee teamed up with Chung Jae-sung for bronze in the men’s doubles.
“Lee, often hailed as one of the most gifted doubles players of all time, dazzled fans with his versatility and magnetic presence on the court,” the BWF’s press release said. “From winning the Olympic gold in mixed doubles at just 19 to amassing a record-breaking 46 Super Series/World Tour titles, Lee redefined the doubles game.”
Lee will be the 10th Korean member of the BWF Hall of Fame and the first since the 1992 Olympic women’s singles champion Bang Soo-hyun, who was inducted in 2019.
Lee has retired from international play but has continued to play domestically. (Yonhap)
