2006 Balkan Badminton Championships: Turkey Hosts Successful Tournament

The 2006 Balkan Badminton Championships was a major badminton tournament held from 27 to 30 July 2006. Sanctioned by both the Balkan Badminton Association and Badminton Europe, it was held at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Izmit, Turkey.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Galati, Romania, but was later postponed and eventually moved to Izmit, Turkey. Six countries took part in the championships.

The Competition

The tournament featured both individual and mixed team events. In the team event, Bulgaria emerged victorious, finishing first without losing a single match. The hosts, Turkey, secured second place.

  • Exhibition matches were played between Turkey’s national backup squad and teams from Romania, Moldova, and Serbia.
  • “The exhibition matches provided an opportunity for the Turkish team to test their skills against other national teams,” said tournament organizer, Mr. Alp.
