NBA training sessions for players of all ages and skill levels will take place this Saturday (Oct. 19) at Columbia Bible College.
Abbotsford basketball fans, get ready! One of the best basketball coaches in the world, Jordan Lawley, will make an impressive stop in a day full of intensive training sessions.
Lawley, who famously worked with many iconic NBA figures including Klay Thompson and Zach Levine, will host training sessions titled Jordan Lawley X Hooper IQ NBA Skills Training this Saturday (October 12). The sessions will also feature Abbotsford basketball prodigy Marek Klassen, who has made an international splash.
The training program is suitable for both male and female athletes and takes place at Columbia Bible College. The schedule is as follows: middle school athletes (levels 6 to 8) practice from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., high school players (levels 9 to 12) have a turn from 3 p.m.: 30 pm to 5:30 pm, followed by a section for students and college professionals from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
Klassen, who collaborated with Lawley on the new Hooper IQ app, designed to improve the understanding of athletes’ game decisions, expressed excitement to see Lawley in his hometown. He believes this represents a unique opportunity for local talent to learn from one of the greatest minds in basketball.
“I was fortunate to experience elite-level basketball from my childhood, which greatly influenced my professional path,” shared Klassen. “I am passionate about sharing my journey and connections with the youth and community here in British Columbia. Jordan, while an elite coach, embodies a realistic and optimistic approach to the game, making these training session accessible to athletes of all levels.”
Klassen, a proud Yale Secondary alumnus, has a wealth of professional experience, having played all over Europe, including Poland and Greece, as well as a successful stint with the Vancouver Bandits.
A former provincial player of the year in British Columbia, Klassen also shined in the BC AAA high school tournament, winning the MVP award while leading the Yale Lions to the provincial championship in 2010.
