The badminton players of Saint Pierre and Miquelon have demonstrated exceptional performance during a recent two-week trip to Guadeloupe, securing a record number of medals in multiple competitions.

Impressive Medal Haul

The delegation from Saint Pierre and Miquelon competed in three tournaments: “Promobad TiBad Gosier” on February 10th, the Challenge Caraïbes, and a second “Promobad” event on February 21st. Their efforts resulted in a total of 16 medals: 9 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze.

A total of 5 young athletes, aged 12 to 18, and 2 adults from the archipelago’s badminton club participated in the competitions.

Strengthening Ties and Regional Participation

This trip also fostered connections between the Saint Pierre and Miquelon athletes and their counterparts in Guadeloupe, as Saint Pierre and Miquelon is part of the Guadeloupe badminton league. Hublart noted that parce que je le rappelle que Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon fait partie de la ligue de badminton de Guadeloupe.

Hublart also commented on the team’s performance, stating Il y a du bon et du moins bon, mais dans l’ensemble, on est quand même plutôt bien, avec neuf médailles d’or, on arrive à rivaliser tout de même avec les Guadeloupéens et Guadeloupéennes.

He added, Ils ont même presque plus progressé en deux semaines qu’en quatre mois sur le territoire.

Beyond the Competition

The trip provided a valuable cultural experience for the young athletes, many of whom were visiting Guadeloupe for the first time. Pour certains jeunes, c’était la première fois en Guadeloupe. Donc ça permet de voir des paysages qu’on n’a pas l’habitude de voir, surtout en ce moment. On sait qu’il y a beaucoup de neige sur Saint-Pierre, alors qu’ici, on a une température de 30 degrés. Ils ont pu découvrir un peu la faune et la flore de la Guadeloupe. Et puis le fait de partager des moments conviviaux avec différents joueurs guadeloupéens et martiniquais également. Pour eux, ce sont des souvenirs qui seront, on espère, inoubliables, Hublart concluded.
