Big football party for one hundred years of Maria Lucchini: on Tuesday the doyenne blew out one hundred candles amidst the warmth of her family. Maria’s life was long and full of numerous sacrifices. As a housewife, she was forced, at the age of 46, to undertake a new career path to provide for her four children (Luigi, Marina, Antonia and Giambattista, the latter who passed away in 52 years) after the premature death of her husband Emilio.

Life between football and Milan

For thirty years she shuttled between Calcio and Milan, where she worked as a cleaner: a job she was able to carry out until she was 76, when a heart problem forced her to rest. «She woke up at four – says her daughter Antonia Bonassi – to be in Milan at six. We were little and she did it for us. My mother – she adds – is a strong woman, who never lost heart. She was an authoritarian person but with a very good soul: when she could she went out of her way, for everyone. Until she was 93, she lived alone and was self-sufficient. Today – explains her daughter – we all lend her a hand.”

They were also there to celebrate with Maria six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. This was followed by the visit of the vice mayor Giuseppe Cigognani, who brought best wishes from the entire Calcian community to the new centenary. Mrs. Maria was also given a frame by the municipal administration containing the text of Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s composition entitled “Woman”.
