Zverev and Sinner Advance at Miami Open, Sinner Eyes Historic Double
Zverev Powers Through to Third Round
Alexander Zverev made a strong start at the ATP Masters in Miami, reaching the third round with a commanding victory. The third seed defeated qualifier Martin Damm of the USA 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday night (CET). Zverev secured the first break of serve in each set, maintaining control throughout the match, which concluded in 1 hour and 9 minutes.
“I’m happy with my match and with my level,” said Zverev after his 103rd win at an ATP Masters since 2020.
Alexander Zverev
Zverev remains the sole German player in contention, following the earlier exits of Daniel Altmaier, Jan-Lennard Struff and Yannick Hanfmann in the men’s draw, and Ella Seidel, Eva Lys, Tatjana Maria, and Laura Siegemund in the women’s draw.
Zverev will face Marin Cilic in the third round. Cilic overcame Brandon Nakashima 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), needing to save a match point to advance.
Sinner Pursues the “Sunshine Double”
Jannik Sinner is also progressing well, aiming for the “Sunshine Double” – winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same year, a feat last accomplished by Roger Federer in 2017. Sinner began his campaign with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Damir Dzumhur.
Sinner has now won 24 consecutive sets, equaling a record previously held by Novak Djokovic. A further set win against Corentin Moutet in the third round would see him surpass Djokovic’s mark.
The Italian conquered 1 title in 2026 in Indian Wells.
