Elisa Longo Borghini fights and makes Italy dream, but Lotte Kopecky triumphs again in Zurich. The Belgian, outgoing world champion, confirmed herself as queen of the women’s road race in the Road Cycling World Championships in Switzerland after 154.1 km and a very tight six-man sprint. The Italian finished with an excellent third place, also preceded by the American Chloe Dygert. For the Piedmontese of Lidl-Trek it is the third world championship bronze: a result already achieved in 2012 and 2020. Fourth is the German Liane Lippert, ahead of the Dutch Demi Vollering and the Australian Ruby Roseman-Gannon.

This is Italy’s fifth medal at this World Cup. The only gold, for the moment, was won by Lorenzo Mark Finn in the junior road race. Only one silver, that of Filippo Ganna after the elite men’s time trial.
