The Municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy plans to regularly implement the practice of yoga in the classrooms of Municipal School No. 1 “Marina Vilte”. The goal is for students to achieve greater emotional stability that allows them to face the school day in a more balanced way.
Rodrigo Altea, Secretary of Human Development, emphasized the importance of this initiative, “from our team, we continue to promote habits that promote physical and mental health. The Marina Vilte School, considered the ‘pearl’ of the Municipality, will be a pioneer in the implementation of a yoga program for elementary school children. We aim to offer them tools to calm their anxieties and improve their mental health,” he said.
For her part, Melina Cid Conde, yoga instructor in charge of the program, explained that the purpose of the program is to provide children and teachers with techniques to use in the classroom. “Yoga helps children channel their energy, calm down and activate when needed. Many of them come with emotional problems from their homes, and through yoga they are able to express themselves and find balance, ” he commented.
Cid Conde also emphasizes that the practice of yoga will allow students to express their emotions and internal conflicts in a more open way. “Yoga can be a tool to achieve emotional stability, which can be seen in their homes,” he added. In addition, he mentioned that teacher training in this technique has already started, and it is expected that yoga classes will be implemented regularly next year.
Mónica Juste, director of the primary level of the “Marina Vilte” School, emphasizes the importance of having this tool, both for students and teachers. “During an interinstitutional conference, Professor Melina Cid Conde worked with our teachers, and now the goal is to extend the practice to 280 students in the same shift. This group activity will be key to improving the emotional education,” he commented.
Finally, Buenaventura Mamaní, director of Educational Projection, pointed out that “yoga is a comprehensive tool that works on the body, mind and soul. It is important for relaxation, because together with breathing techniques it allows students to relax and face the challenges of school in a calmer and more focused way.”
