Nigerien Prime Minister (middle), Lamine Zeine, praised the resilience of the Nigerien people and that of the brother peoples of the AES Confederation who supported Niger.

The Prime Minister of Niger, Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, drew up, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, a positive assessment of the government’s action during this first year of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) in power in Niger, despite the unjust embargo imposed on the country.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister, after recalling the commitment made by President Abdourahamane Tiani through his approach to the conquest of sovereignty and good governance in Niger, and the sanctions unjustly imposed by ECOWAS and UEMOA on Niger, praised the courage and determination of the Nigerien people who were able to stand behind the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNSP) as one man.

“The Nigerien people, in their diversity, have drawn from their ancestral heroic values the strength of character, determination and resilience of the Sahelian to remain standing in order to regain their sovereignty and true independence,” he said. For him, it is thanks to the trust of the people that the CNSP set up the government on August 7, 2023, which immediately got to work and identified the urgent tasks to be accomplished to straighten out our country.

In the execution of this program thus decided under the leadership of the Head of State, he continued, the government has also learned a very important lesson that must be brought to the attention of the people so that they are proud of it. “We have indeed understood that a worthy people knows how to count first on their own strengths to deserve respect and consideration, this is what we had done during the past year to mobilize, exclusively within our country, the financial resources that have allowed us, thanks to rigorous and virtuous management, to ensure the regular functioning of the State,” noted Lamine Zeine.

He explained that security expenditures and salary charges and other allocations for all our defense and security forces, the acquisition of military equipment and materials to support the rise of our FDS, the regular payment of salaries of state agents and pensions, the payment of scholarships and allowances for pupils and students, the supply of basic necessities to the country, the supply of pharmaceutical products to health facilities, support for agricultural inputs for rural producers, the strengthening of our electricity production capacities, thus substantially reducing our energy dependence constitute in particular the specific efforts provided by the CNSP.

In reviewing the year, he also mentioned the departure of foreign forces and a review of diplomatic action in order to readjust the country’s geopolitical and geostrategic positioning. “This is how less than two months after the advent of the CNSP, the Liptako-Gourma Charter, which brings together our country, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Mali, was signed in Ouagadougou on September 16, 2023. Through this act, our three AES countries opportunely provided themselves with a common shield to jointly face any desire for aggression against a member state,” he said. For the Prime Minister, the AES Confederation will make it possible to move faster than we think towards a shared and harmonious development of the peoples of Liptako-Gourma.
