The Sports Councilor of El Puerto de Santa María City Council, José Ignacio González, presented this Wednesday at the San Miguel Auditorium the Municipal Sports Games of the 2024/2025 Course, celebrating their 40th anniversary with a gala that filled the capacity in the presence of all schools, city clubs and referee representatives. They are joined by a large group of professionals who have been part of the Department of Sports for the past four decades, who have been key to the success of these Games promoting sport and its values to children and young people. on.
They start next Tuesday, January 28, with the participation of 18 schools and 15 clubs: about 4,500 athletes between 5 and 18 years old. A total of 683 matches will be played, including the finals.
The games will last four months, with completion scheduled for mid-May. 155 teams will meet from Tuesday to Saturday in various sports facilities such as Ciudad Deportiva, Pista Blandino Lara, Pabellón Ramón Velázquez, Pabellón Jóvenes Portuenses, Pabellón Angelita Alta, Pista Pinillo Chico and the IES Mar de Cádiz, basketball, soccer indoor, table tennis, rugby, volleyball, chess, athletics, to name some of the modalities to choose from.
In addition to regulated competitions, specific events will be held such as the Concejalía Fútbol Base Cup; the Cruyff Courts 6vs6 Tournament at the Joaquín Sánchez Court; the rhythmic gymnastics exhibition at the Ramón Velázquez Pavilion in March; the Cross Country and the School Olympiad, both in Sports City. As new features, this Course will feature inclusive Futsal and Rugby – which aims to offer space for all young people regardless of their ability – and Beach Soccer.
The Councilor of Youth and Sports, José Ignacio González, highlighted at the gala the importance of these games, which are a fundamental pillar of the city’s sports offer, favoring the training of new talents and healthy ones habit. “After four decades of history, it continues to be one of the star programs of the Department, bringing together students and athletes from 33 educational centers and city clubs in a great effort to unite in educational games, create a quarry.”
The councilor emphasized the importance of these games as a means of teaching basic values, such as friendship, tolerance, sportsmanship and respect. “What we have achieved in these 40 years is not just a matter of medals or results. The real success lies in the values we instill and the positive impact we leave on our youth,” added González.
