Inspiring the Next Generation: Wyatt Langford Hosts Baseball Camp in Gainesville
Local Hero Shares His Love for Baseball with the Community
NEWBERRY, FL — Over 100 excited youngsters braved the January heat and early morning start to attend something truly special in their community. The reason? To learn from and be inspired by none other than local hero and Texas Rangers’ player Wyatt Langford.
Wyatt Langford: A Symbol of Hope and Ambition
Langford, a Trenton native and former Florida Gators star, hosted his second annual baseball camp at Champions Park in Newberry. The camp, run by the Florida Hardballers, saw kids aged 8-14 from around the Gainesville-area receive mentorship from one of their own who rose to the top of Major League Baseball.
Why Wyattt Langford Makes a Difference
- Wyatt Langford grew up in Trenton, a place with limited resources for youth baseball.
- As a Gilchrist County state champion, Langford earned a scholarship to Florida, becoming one of their top offensive players.
- Now a 2023 World Series champion with the Texas Rangers, Langford remains committed to giving back to his community.
"People who could tell you what to do and what not to do weren’t available when I grew up. I’m here to be that role model for these kids."
Wyatt Langford’s Camp: More Than Just Baseball
Langford was joined by former UF teammates Colby Halter, Blake Purnell, and Ryan Slater as coaches, providing a wealth of experience and knowledge for the campers. About half of the kids came from the tri-county area of Levy, Dixie, and Gilchrist Counties, highlighting the camp’s impact on the local community.
For 12-year-old Mason Depaola, Langford is more than just a role model. He’s a superhero. "If you’re playing with better guys, they’ll push you. And if you see guys in the majors, you can strive to be like that. That’ll make you the best player," Depaola said.
Looking Ahead: Texas Rangers 2026 Season
The Rangers’ 2026 season begins on March 26 at the Philadelphia Phillies. Texas will visit the Tampa Bay Rays from July 28-30 and the Atlanta Braves from July 17-19. They will also face the Miami Marlins from June 22-24.
