World Judo Championships: India’s Linthoi Chanambam’s Inspiring Bronze Medal Journey
India’s Star on the Rise
In the heart of South America, the World Junior Judo Championships took place in Lima, Peru, producing inspiring stories that transcended national borders. One such story belongs to Linthoi Chanambam, the Indian judoka who made history with her bronze medal victory in the women’s 63kg category.
“We cried, suffered, and made mistakes, but you were always by my side. I think you deserve this medal more than myself. Thank you for always giving me confidence.” – Linthoi Chanambam
Her Journey to the Podium
At just 19 years old, Chanambam has already etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history. In 2022, she became India’s first-ever judo gold medalist at the World Cadet Championships in Sarajevo. But her journey hasn’t been straightforward.
- Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Chanambam and her coach, Mamuka Kizilashvili, found themselves stranded in Georgia for nine months of rigorous training.
- Upon returning to India, Chanambam suffered a serious injury, tearing her anterior cruciate ligament, which sidelined her for a period.
Overcoming these adversities, Chanambam made an inspiring comeback in 2025, showcasing remarkable resilience and determination.
