Medellín has 622,000 people between the ages of 14 and 28. That is, young people in the city represent a quarter of the local population, according to the mayor, Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga.
And to celebrate it, in Medellín, every year, at the end of August, Youth Week 2024 takes place, in this edition under the name of MedaYoung. Thus, this August 30 and 31, Medellín will become the young city of the world with MedaYoungThe programme includes concerts, workshops, urban art and bilingualism.
“We hope that these two days will be a time of youth meetings, of discussion around the priorities of our youth in terms of opportunities, education and dreams. We will have workshops on trades for young people in barista, barbering, cocktail making, meditation, among others, to reduce youth unemployment,”
said Mayor Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga.
The bulk of the programming will take place in Parque Norte. Among the artists who will make the youth of Medellín sing are: Luis Alfonso, Puerto Candelaria, IRA, Margarita Siempre Viva, La Banda del Bisonte and Juan Duque.
The programming includes:
- Concerts with the participation of 44 national and local artists.
- 47 trade workshops.
- 6 routes to “wander around the city”.
- 3 cycles.
- Other “patches” and cultural activities to reflect on the challenges of global cities.
