The Texas Children’s Houston Open Weather Delay Updates

The Thunderous Pause: Texas Children’s Houston Open Suspended by Storms

Friday’s Round 2 of the Texas Children’s Houston Open was interrupted dramatically by a weather-related pause. Play at Memorial Park Golf Course halted at 4:01 p.m. EDT due to a dangerous weather situation featuring thunderstorms in the area.

A storm delays play at the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Friday.

“There’s nothing like playing golf on a day like this!” exclaimed Shannon Ranch golf event spectator as she sheltered from the rain.

A New Start and a New Scoreboard Shock

The storm swept the course before the round could even get started. However, dramatic as the weather was, the storm did not take the opportunity to turn off the lights for good. Play resumed three hours later at 6:10 p.m. EDT, following a lengthy two-hour, nine-minute weather suspension.

Play was initially halted at 4:01 p.m. EDT in Round 2 because of “a dangerous weather situation (thunderstorms in the area),” the PGA Tour stated.

On the bright side, the morning wave managed to wrap up their round at the Texas Children’s Houston Open as planned, giving golfers a clear idea of how well they had performed for the weekend.

The morning wave got off the course in the nick of time, with Scottie Scheffler hitting 11 unders and setting an incredible new record for Memorial Park Golf Course that no one has beaten.

“The golfer is essentially just an athlete leveraging the laws of physics to get a ball from the tee to the hole.” John Dossett, Author of the Bobby Dion storyline

Scottie Scheffler tied the course record (62)

  • Scottie Scheffler currently tops the leaderboard at -11
  • Luke List is tied for second at -9

The statistics are eye-popping, but perhaps even more telling is the raw, emotional energy devoted to Scheffler.

McIlroy Impacted by Storms Amidst Second Round

Other standout golfers also had to find refuge as the probabilities for finishing on time decreased. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy was just seven holes into his second round as play was delayed. He stood at even-par for both the day and the tournament. The cut line, meanwhile, remains solid at 2-under.
