The Kentucky Wildcats women’s tennis team has concluded their fall season with a mix of triumphs and challenges, looking ahead to their spring team season with renewed determination.
ITA South Sectional Championships: Close Calls and Consolation Wins
Senior Zoe Hammond and junior Julia Zhu represented the Wildcats at the ITA South Sectional Championships in Baton Rouge. Although they fell short of qualifying for the NCAA Championship, they fought valiantly in the singles draw.
- Hammond lost her opening match to Georgia’s Sofia Rojas (6-3, 6-4) but rebounded with a thrilling three-set victory in the consolation round (3-6, 6-4, 7-5).
- Zhu suffered a first-round defeat to Auburn’s Alice Battesti (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) but won her consolation match against Miami’s Aely Arai before retiring injured in the quarterfinals.

June Stewart Vanderbilt Invitational: Doubles Dominance and Singles Success
The rest of the Kentucky team attended the June Stewart Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville. They shone in doubles and enjoyed several singles victories.
- The doubles pair of Asuncion Jadue and Reese Sager secured two wins, including a 7-5 victory against Ole Miss’ Nova/Crowder duo.
- Jadue and Sager also picked up multiple singles wins, with Jadue defeating Ole Miss’ Nova (6-3, 6-4) and Sager triumphing over Purdue’s Wilson (6-2, 6-3).
- Freshman Elena Molla registered a singles win on day one, defeating Lipscomb’s Bovio (6-2, 6-1).
- On the final day, Marina Fuduric won her singles match 6-0, 6-3, while Sager secured her second singles win of the weekend (6-4, 6-1).
Looking Ahead to the Spring Season
The Wildcats will use the high-level competition they’ve faced in the fall to prepare for their upcoming SEC and nonconference matches in the new year. They’ll resume play in late January.
